Some relevant and interesting sites to go look at. Many of
these links are to Portal sites that show
how Portal can be used for B2C. It isn't possible to link to B2E
or B2B Portal sites because they are all secure and you generally
can't get past the login page. Click ->

Solaris preinstalled for less than $1000 at this site (look for the
V100 product). A Wintel box would cost 2 or 3 times this at this
performance point. Add another 50GB drive and you've got a pretty
robust system.
iPlanet (now Sun One Software) This is where a lot of very useful software can be found.

Hamilton Technologies The home of a very unusual software engineering tool, 001. If you want to make super reliable systems very quickly, this is the place to go. Not much Java yet, though, although they can generate code for any language pretty quickly - C, Fortran, ADA, and Cobol to name a few are already available - with Java in 60 days of an order.

http://www.tntvacations.com This reference is an example of using iPlanet Portal Server as a platform for building both B2B and B2C portal. The iPlanet Portal Server is being used as the mechanism to execute their strategy to move away from travel agencies to direct consumer relationship.

That's this one, of course. Design concept harks back to the early days of the Internet where most pages were basic documents. Intended to be useful and very simple to navigate.
A snapshot of a B2B Portal based solution to a market data distribution problem. Took 2 weeks to develop using 001 and the iPlanet Portal instead of the 2 person-years it would have taken developing from scratch.
